One more completed project for the automotive industry! We are expanding the OKB Research Centre in Bukowiec
We are delighted to announce the launch of a new development in Bukowiec near the city of Łódź. As General Contractor, we are responsible for the expansion of the Operations Centre of OKB, a recognised expert in the design, prototyping and approval of commercial vehicles. We are building a 1,630 square metre green-powered facility.
For years setting standards in the engineering sector, OKB is a leading design and research centre which combines advanced industrial design with state-of-the-art engineering facilities. It also owns a testing laboratory, with its skilled engineering team recognised as a major boost to the business image in the market.
The automotive industry has been undergoing a real evolution in recent years, as the tightening type approval regulations and increasing safety requirements for commercial vehicles result in a steadily increasing number of projects carried out by OKB. This inspired the decision to invest in new infrastructure to further scale the business in this demanding sector and keep the firm’s superior engineering support.
The 11-metre-tall building with a total area of 1,630 square metres is being erected in Bukowiec near Łódź, just next to organisation’s headquarters and its R&D Centre, which is run since 2009 at that location. We have selected a proven hybrid design for this development. We use pre-engineered reinforced concrete piers that ensure the required stability and fire resistance, and a steel truss roof structure that optimises the dead weight of the structure while maintaining large axial spans without a dense grid of interior columns. Adding to a production and warehouse area, we will also build an office and staff amenity area (400 square metres) with a dedicated upper-level equipment mezzanine.
The process solutions follow sustainable industrial building standards to utilise green energy to a great extent. We want to base the heating system for the facility on ground-source heat pumps and the roof-top installed PV arrays. These solutions will reduce operating costs and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of OKB’s operations.
Construction work is already underway, with completion planned for July 2026. We are proud that our General Contractor’s experience makes us capable of supporting the development of high-tech research centres in our region.
