Łódź is celebrating its 600th anniversary this year! To ensure that everyone could celebrate, the city provided a unique setting. A three-day music festival, picnics, excursions, film screenings – these were the attractions organised for the last weekend in July. But the celebrations did not end there. The Mayor of Łódź launched a wonderful campaign to award commemorative medals to 600 outstanding citizens of Łódź. Last week, one of these medals was presented to Hubert Hoffman, President of Commercecon and owner of ŁKS Commercecon Łódź SA.
The medals for the 600th anniversary of Łódź are a unique initiative of the City Council. It is a unique initiative of the Łódź City Council, which awards the medals to people who have contributed in a special way to the city, its development in various fields, as well as to the local community. And our President is no exception!
For many years, Hubert Hoffman has skilfully combined the management of Commercecon with the management of the women’s volleyball team ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, with which he has achieved spectacular success both nationally and internationally. Needless to say, the Łódź Squirrels have been on the podium of the Polish Championship for the past six years, winning the most prestigious trophy in the competition twice and competing successfully with the best teams from the Old Continent in the Women’s Volleyball Champions League.
And it was the successful business activities combined with the sporting activities connected with the development of volleyball in Łódź and the enormous contribution to the promotion of Łódź on the sports arenas of Poland and Europe that brought the recognition of the Chapter of Medals for the 600th Anniversary of the City of Lodz.
The award ceremony, attended by Hanna Zdanowska, the Mayor of Łódź, took place last week in the Museum of the City of Łódź, located in the palace of Izrael Poznanski, one of the greatest Łódź entrepreneurs of the 19th century. At this point, it is worth recalling a page from the history of Łódź – on 29 July 1423, the King Władysław Jagieło issued a document granting the small agricultural village the city rights. This opened up new opportunities for development, which Łódź skilfully exploited to become a veritable industrial empire by the mid-19th century.
Congratulations to all the winners! The 600th Anniversary Medal of Łódź is another honour for Hubert Hoffman this year. In the spring, the jury of the “Łódź Region Manager of the Year” competition recognised his competence and commitment in his dual role as manager.
