The year 2023 is a special one for our President Hubert Hoffman. In the last few months he has been honoured not only for his management skills, but also for his contribution to the development of volleyball in Łódź and his activities for the local community. In November this year, he was awarded the “For Merit to the City of Łódź” badge.
The Badge of Merit for the City of Łódź has been awarded by the Łódź City Council since 1992. It is awarded to people who are distinguished by their social attitude and everyday work for the benefit of the city and the local community.
The badges are awarded at the request of: the President of the City Council, City Council Committees, the Mayor and scientific institutions or social organisations of at least city level. They are awarded twice a year – on the occasion of the City of Łódź Festival (15 May) and Independence Day (11 November). And it was this autumn that Hubert Hoffman received this special award.
This time, it was his contribution to the development of volleyball in Łódź and his sporting successes that were honoured. Hubert Hoffman’s love of sport is well known, and volleyball is his greatest passion. For many years, he has successfully developed it in the women’s volleyball club ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, of which he has been the owner and president since 2010. Under the leadership of Hubert Hoffman, Łódź Squirrels have started a new chapter in their history – firstly, they were quickly promoted to the Premier League, and in the last six seasons they have not been absent from the podium of the Polish Championships, winning the gold medal twice. They also represent women’s volleyball and the city of Łódź with dignity on the international stage, playing in the Champions League and the CEV Cup for six years in a row.
Hubert Hoffman’s competence in the dual role of manager was recognised this year by the jury of the “Manager of the Year in the Łódź Region” competition. He was also one of six hundred citizens of Łódź to receive a commemorative medal for the 600th anniversary of the city, as part of a campaign initiated by the Łódź Mayor.
